Over the last few years Ryan has become one of the most in demand trumpet players in Scotland, performing with the likes of Bob Geldof, Ronan Keating, The Hothouse Flowers, Stacey Kent, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Tommy Smith and The Commitments among others. Ryan’s jazz quintet headlined at the 2003 Glasgow International Jazz Festival and he has also guested with the New York based innovative jazz combo, The Bad Plus. Ryan returned to complete his academic studies at the RSAMD in 2003 and has been invited to return to lecture immediately after graduating.
Ryan is currently lead trumpet with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and regularly tours at home and abroad with Salsa Celtica and others. Ryan is becoming more active as a composer and arranger and is currently writing material for his debut jazz album. He also recently formed the inventive brass group RYLO with the international session bass trombonist, Lorna McDonald, which will appear for the first time at the RSAMD in 2005.
